First day of knockout round

Landon Donovan and his USA teammates face a tough task in beating out the Black Stars of Ghana in the round of 16.

Uruguay goes into the  game versus South Korea looking to advance to the quarter finals. Uruguay was very impressive in the group stage and will be looking to use the momentum they have from the group stage on into the knockout round. If Uruguay is to beat South Korea tommorrow Diego Forlan will need to lead the attack as he has done for Uruguay so far in this World Cup if not Uruguay will have trouble scoring against South Korea.

South Korea's View

South Korea will view themselves as very fortunate to get through the group stage as they advanced, but came so close to blowing it in their last game versus Nigeria. South Korea's defence will need to be much more tighter against Uruguay or they could be a goal down very quickly in this game.

USA's View

The Americans went from being eliminated to Group winners in one minute thanks to a last minute winner from Landon Donovan. The Americans would love nothing more to beat out Ghana and advance to the quarter finals. Advancing to the quarter finals for the United States would be quite an accomplishment for the Yanks. If the USA want to beat Ghana they will need to get off to a quick start as they have been guilty against other teams. If they don't they might want to be arranging their way home as Ghana will make them pay.

Ghana's View

Ghana is the lone African team left in this tournament which will give them an overwhelming crowd advantage. Ghana still has yet to score off of open play in this tournament, and this must change sooner or later. The man who must make this change is Asamoah Gyan who needs to help Ghana create a few more chances off of open play. Ghana have the hopes of a continent laying on them since the tournament is in South Africa and many African soccer fans view this as a very good chance for an African team to win the World Cup for the first time.
