Canada Day events and attractions across the City

The streets of Vancouver will come alive with fun as the City celebrates Canada Day.

Residents can join a range of festive activities across the City. “There are so many ways in Vancouver for people to have safe, family-friendly fun and show their love of Canada,” said Mayor Gregor Robertson.

“Canada’s 143rd birthday is a special time for people from diverse backgrounds to come together and celebrate what we all have in common. Whether you have a party in your neighbourhood or join the festivities Downtown, I encourage everyone to show your community spirit and pride in our country.”

One of the highlights will be the Canada Day Parade. It starts at 6:30 pm and runs east on West Georgia from Broughton to Hornby, north on Hornby to Dunsmuir, west on Dunsmuir to Thurlow, and ends on Melville at 8:30.

The parade will be followed by fireworks in Burrard Inlet at 10:30. Many of the other activities throughout the day will be centred Downtown around Canada Place.

These include the relighting of the Olympic and Paralympic Cauldron in Jack Poole Plaza, a special citizenship ceremony, and the singing of “Oh Canada” at noon.

Neighbourhood events include the Canada Day Community Celebration on Nanaimo Street between 41st and 45th Avenue.

For more information about some of the festivities Downtown, visit the Canada Place website: www.canadaplace.ca.

Citizens are reminded that celebrations around the city will cause temporary traffic disruptions in some areas, especially Downtown.
