Around 5:50 this evening, a motorcycle traveling southbound on the Lions Gate Bridge collided with a northbound sport utility vehicle, police said in an email alert that went out to local media.

Tragically, the 27 year-old lone man riding the motorcycle died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

The name of the deceased is not being released pending notification of the man's family.

The driver of the sport utility vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

Investigators from the Vancouver Police Collision Investigation Unit are on scene conducting their investigation and the Lions Gate Bridge remains closed to vehicle and bus traffic. Pedestrians and cyclists are being allowed across the bridge.
