Olympic Village becomes "The Village of False Creek", as discounted condos go on sale
This morning, the VO team went to the Olympic Village, now renamed "The Village," to catch the relaunch and check out the new homes that were open for public view. The units we viewed were simple and spacious with earthy colours. Douglas Coupland's "Generation A" sat on one of the shelves. There was art on the walls. The place was designed. The message was: be cool. Be urban. Buy here.
We got to check out the 13th floor, then the 7th and 3rd, and then went out to the courtyard. Crowds of various media rustled about, trying to capture featured homes on videos and cameras. Click click click, and off to the next. Morris Chapdelaine interviewed Bob Rennie, Principal at Rennie Marketing Systems. Rennie told VO that ten years from now, skeptics will be saying that they knew it would work.

"A total of 230 new condominiums are now available for purchase at The Village on False Creek, home of the Olympic and Paralympic Athletes’ Village during the 2010 Winter Games," Rennie said. Prices range from 329, 900 for a 1 bedroom apartment to 2, 150, 900 for the luxury collection.

The 230 suites available for sale are located in two sections of The Village on False Creek: “Bridge” (at Columbia Street and Athletes Way) and “Kayak” (Ontario and Athletes Way).
Rennie also announced new February 2011 pricing for the suites available at The Village at False Creek, with a range of discounts for condominiums depending on square footage, location, suite features and views available. While discounts vary from suite to suite, overall prices on suites available for purchase today have been reduced by an average of 30 per cent from May 2010 prices, representing exceptional value for homebuyers.
The Village on False Creek has won over a dozen construction, design and green building awards. Premium features include:
High ceilings (nine feet or higher); three earthly colour palettes: Vancouver (light colours), Canada (medium colours) and World (dark colours); Eggersman of Germany cabinetry in kitchens and bathrooms; High-performance Miele EnergyStar appliances; Dombracht polished chrome faucets.
