#EastVanLove tweetup explores the history behind one of Vancouver's most loved neighbourhoods
With the theme "Journey to Now", the #EastVanLove tweetup, now in its eight edition, promises a multi-ethnic collage of adverse and uplifting stories that reveal the honest authenticity of East Vancouver’s heritage as an inclusive, culturally rich community with a vibrant and historic past.
The roster of speakers include Michael Kluckner, author and artist of Vanishing Vancouver: The Last 25 Years; Am Johal, community engagement at SFU; John Atkin, host of Walking Tours Vancouver; Naveen Girn, co-curator for the Museum of Vancouver's Bhangra.me: Vancouver's Bhangra Story; Jason Vanderhill of Illustrated Vancouver and Hanna Cho of Museum of Vancouver.
The event will also feature the trailer screening of The Drive, a brand new webseries, which “chronicles the lives of five roommates struggling to carve their own path while living on East Vancouver's Commercial Drive”.
Proceeds from the ticket sales will be going to a local community organization voted by attendees. Every vote counts toward giving a non-profit or charity the financial support they need to thrive in East Vancouver.
