Conservatives reopen abortion debate: not surprising, but scary

It’s not up to politicians to decide whether women should be punished with an unwanted nine months of the  physical, emotional and psychological upheaval that is a pregnancy, just for having sex—which, despite our best efforts, sometimes leads to conception. That will never change, and that isn’t the fault of women.

I’m saying all this, just in case. I’m saying it now. Because, although the House today will only discuss the possibility of setting up that committee, possibility might become reality, and that proposed future committee might declare fetuses human beings.

And then there will be one more group for Conservatives to rank over women, who—just for the record—are human beings without a doubt.

An actual vote on Woodward’s motion will happen in June at the earliest, and September the latest.
